Lawyer and former Deputy Minister of State, Vicky Bright, speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, said the wave of Ghanaians seeking evacuation from South Africa reflects a deeper crisis of confidence among young Africans.

She argued that the issue cannot be reduced to panic or emotion, but must be seen as part of a wider continental struggle with opportunity.

“There’s a deep and uncomfortable reality that a lot of young Africans no longer believe there is sufficient opportunity for them in their countries,” she said.

According to her, the increasing willingness of citizens abroad to return home under distress signals how fragile migration hopes have become when confronted with harsh realities.

She stressed that many Africans travel abroad with expectations that often collapse under pressure, leaving them trapped in survival conditions that eventually force reconsideration of their decisions.

For her, the South African situation is not isolated but symptomatic of a broader structural economic failure across the continent.
