President John Dramani Mahama reportedly suspended Yaw Ampofo Ankrah from his role as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) over allegations of visa racketeering.
According to sports journalist Muftawu Nabila, he has seen the letter issued to the former NSA boss, which indicated that he was required to step aside while investigations into the 2026 World Cup visa scandal continued.
It was also disclosed that the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, had submitted a report to the President on the visa scandal, recommending Ampofo Ankrah’s suspension.

Speaking on PM Express, aired on JoyNews on October 12, 2026, Muftawu Nabila said the measure was necessary to ensure a transparent investigation into the matter.
“So I read the letter, and what the secretary to the president basically wrote was the fact that he is being suspended because of visa racketeering. Also, it was because the sports minister had written a report to the presidency to have Yaw suspended,” he said.
The Minority in Parliament has called for Kofi Adams and Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua to be investigated over alleged irregularities involving the NSA and the GTA Fest.
The allegations include questions about visa facilitation arrangements, the amounts allegedly charged, and the verification of lists submitted to foreign embassies.
