The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has distanced her office and local authorities from the demolition exercise carried out at the Kaajaano fishing community in the La Dadekotopon Municipality.

Several structures, according to TV3 Ghana, were pulled down in an early morning operation on Saturday, April 11, 2026, leaving dozens of residents displaced and distressed.

Reacting to the incident via a video shared on Facebook on Monday, April 13, 2026, Ocloo explained that she had contacted the individual behind the exercise after hearing reports of residents’ belongings being thrown out.

She said she pleaded with him to pause the operation, noting that her own uncle lives in the community, another reason they couldn't be behind the exercise.

"In fact, I called the man and told him what I had heard, and I begged him to pause. I had seen that belongings of residents, especially mothers, were being thrown out, so I asked him to stop.

"As I speak, my uncle also lives here, so, if I tell you we don’t know anything about this, you have to understand us,” she explained.

The minister also stressed that neither the Member of Parliament of the area nor the Municipal Chief Executive had prior knowledge of the demolition.

According to her, it was the MCE, who was in Koforidua at the time, who called her to inform her of what was happening.

"Your MP doesn’t know anything about this. Your MCE also doesn’t know anything about this. It was the MCE, who was in Koforidua, who called me to say this was what was going on, and this is really bad,” she added.

Describing the situation as uncalled for, Ocloo assured residents that efforts were being made to secure temporary shelter for those affected.

She admitted, however, that there was little her office could do since many properties had already been destroyed.
