The Amasaman High Court’s reduction of Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa’s 15-year jail term to 12 months has sparked widespread debate as the public questions the rationale behind the court’s ruling.

The court, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, noted that Agradaa’s original punishment was harsh and excessive given the circumstances surrounding her case of charlatanic advertising and defrauding by false pretenses.

The court upheld Nana Agradaa’s conviction but reduced her sentence of 15 years of hard labor.

The judge said that while the offense deserved punishment, the original sentence was too harsh and needed to be lowered.

The court said that sentencing should reflect both the seriousness of the offense and the principle of proportionality.

In this case, it found that the original prison term was longer than reasonable, even though the conviction was legally sound.

Agradaa was accused of collecting various sums of money from church attendees after promoting supposed money-doubling powers.

Prosecutors based their case on her activities on Today’s TV and several social media platforms, where she advertised the scheme and encouraged the public to attend an all-night church service, promising to double their money through spiritual intervention.

More than 1,000 people reportedly attended the service and handed over large sums of cash.

However, the promise was not fulfilled.
