Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region on Saturday elected a new set of regional executives in what was described as a peaceful voting exercise held at Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Constituency.
The congress, which brought together delegates from all 17 constituencies in the region, resulted in major changes to the regional leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Ignatius Kwasi Africa emerged as the new Western Regional Chairman with a landslide of 265 votes against Abdul Ganiu’s 102 votes. One ballot was rejected.
Kwasi Bonzoh, former Ellembelle DCE and fourth-term Ellembelle NPP parliamentary candidate, polled 211 votes to defeat the incumbent secretary, Okatakyie Amankwaa Afrifa, alias OKT, who pulled 157 votes.
Emmanuel Issah Acquah polled 212 votes to beat the incumbent Communication Director, Issah Fuseini, who got 152 votes, while David Ackah Miezah managed to get 3 votes.

PEACEFUL PROCESS, NEW DIRECTION
Security agencies, party officials and observers commended delegates for the peaceful conduct of the elections throughout the day.
Addressing the media after the results, party stakeholders said the new leadership faces the immediate task of fostering unity, strengthening grassroots structures and strategising to increase the NDC’s parliamentary seats in the Western Region.
With 9 out of 17 parliamentary seats currently held by the NDC in the region, the new executives will be expected to lead the charge to flip more seats in 2028.
The Western Regional Congress at Agona Nkwanta is expected to give the party renewed momentum as it prepares for internal and national elections.
