The Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has criticised Ghanaians, particularly Christians, for allowing partisan politics to undermine the construction of the National Cathedral.
According to him, the project, which was intended to serve as a significant Christian landmark, should have received broader support rather than being subjected to political divisions.

Pastor Otabil said Ghanaians had become so politically divided that politics was increasingly affecting their ability to think critically and support initiatives aimed at national development.
“We are so small-minded, so small-minded that we allow politics to blind us. We allow politics to just crush our thinking,” he said.
Speaking about the need for major development projects, he urged Ghanaians to think beyond partisan interests and support initiatives that could have a lasting impact on the country.
“We need to build massively to the glory of God,” Pastor Otabil stated.
He noted that while other countries and communities were investing heavily in infrastructure and monumental projects, Ghana had struggled to rally support around its own initiatives.
“Others are building things all over. Ghana wanted to build a National Cathedral, and Christians beat it up with their own mouth,” he said.
The National Cathedral project, initiated under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been a subject of intense public and political debate, particularly over its financing, cost and management.
