Two shot as gunmen attack bus

The gunmen attacked the bus near Walewale

Two people have been reportedly shot on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus traveling from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

According to an adomonline.com report on December 17, 2025, the incident occurred near the Walewale township in the North East Region.

The sudden attack caused panic among passengers onboard the bus as shots were fired.

The injured persons were identified as the driver of the bus and one passenger.

Both sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Walewale Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment, the report added.

The bus involved in the incident is reportedly operated by Great Imperial Express and bears registration number GY 3199-21.

“The bus, operated by Great Imperial Express and bearing registration number GY 3199-21, is believed to have been targeted in connection with local tensions in the area,” the report said.

Preliminary information suggests that the vehicle may have been deliberately targeted due to unresolved local tensions in the area.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the attack and indicated that investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest the assailants.
