State files same charges against Hanan; only two new charges added to 20-count case

Ex-NAFCO boss Hannan Abdul-Wahab and his wife have been granted bail Ex-NAFCO boss Hannan Abdul-Wahab and his wife have been granted bail

The criminal case involving the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, has taken a bizarre turn after the State dropped all charges against them, citing fresh evidence, according to the Attorney-General.

Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, following his release and subsequent re-arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), now faces a revised set of charges according to the state.

The initial 24 counts previously filed against him have been reduced to 20.

However, in filing the new charges, the Attorney-General has largely maintained the earlier charges, introducing only two new counts out of the now 20 charges currently before the court.

The new charges include the following:

Ex-NAFOC boss Abdul-Wahab, wife granted bail in alleged GH¢50m theft case

Count One

Statement of Offence:

Defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Particulars of Offence:

Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, 39 years old, is alleged to have, in 2017 in Accra, within the jurisdiction of the court, by false pretences, obtained from the National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited the sum of GH¢734,400 (equivalent to US$127,500), purportedly for rent covering the period May 2017 to May 2019.

Count Two

Statement of Offence:

Wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic, contrary to Section 179A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Particulars of Offence:

Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, 39 years old, is alleged to have, in 2017 in Accra, within the Greater Accra Region and within the jurisdiction of the court, in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited, caused financial loss to the company through a false rent claim amounting to GH¢734,400 (equivalent to US$127,500).

It may be recalled that Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai announced the withdrawal in court, stating that it was based on the discovery of fresh evidence.

“Following the discovery of fresh evidence, we have, a while ago, withdrawn from the prosecution of all the accused persons in the case of The Republic v Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and 4 Others. This is to afford each of the accused persons a fair and more speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution,” he said in a social media post on May 5, 2026.

He further noted that proceedings in a related case would continue, with a prosecution witness testifying about how the accused persons allegedly obtained and spent state funds.

Recently, the Office of the Attorney-General announced that it has filed new criminal charges against Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and a second accused person, Faiza Seidu Wuni, over allegations including fraud, theft, abuse of office and causing financial loss to the state.

The charges, contained in a 14-page charge sheet filed at the High Court in Accra on May 15, 2026, detail alleged financial misconduct involving millions of Ghana cedis belonging to the state-owned Buffer Stock Company.

It may be recalled that Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame accused Justice Srem Sai of misleading the public over claims that lawyers had access to Abdul-Wahab Hanan.

This follows his re-arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Dame insisted that lawyers representing Hanan and his wife were denied access to their clients for two days while they remained in EOCO custody.

“It’s untrue. The lawyers from our office were there. It started on Tuesday; the lawyers were there for a long while and continued to yesterday, but were denied access,” he stated.

According to him, although food was delivered to Hanan during the period, a lawyer who attempted to accompany the food and meet the client was prevented from doing so.

Dame further revealed that after the interrogations conducted, no fresh charges were brought against the former Buffer Stock CEO.

“Today, there was an interrogation. No new charges; there was no fresh evidence,” he said.
