A member of the Ghana Armed Forces, named David Kofi Brew, has reportedly been arrested over the illegal sale of firearms to criminals.

According to multiple reports, Kofi Brew, who is said to be a Warrant Officer Class II of the Fourth Infantry Battalion of the army, was arrested after a covert operation at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station, by security operatives in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect was intercepted while allegedly attempting to deliver weapons worth about GH¢80,000 to undercover agents posing as buyers.

The soldier is said to have admitted to having supplied firearms to individuals operating in and around Obuasi.

Other suspects, believed to be part of Kofi Brew’s arms trafficking gang, are reportedly being pursued by security authorities.

Visuals from the arrest posted on social media showed a semi-automatic rifle, a pistol, several rounds of ammunition, and bundles of cash.

The Ghana Armed Forces are yet to comment on the matter.
