Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has shared a heartfelt account of what he described as one of the most touching experiences of his life: the presentation of a “giant Ghana chocolate” to President John Dramani Mahama.
In a Facebook post shared on Friday, March 13, 2026, he joined Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama in posing for a photograph with a specially prepared “giant Ghana chocolate” that had been gifted by South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung, bearing a bold inscription 'HE John Dramani Mahama’.
Choi explained that for many Koreans, Ghana Chocolate is not just a product but a familiar part of their childhood, a brand that has accompanied them through generations and become a symbol of comfort and nostalgia.
“For many Koreans, ‘Ghana Chocolate’ is a very familiar name. It is a chocolate that has been with Koreans since their childhood. What makes this moment even more meaningful to me is that the name of the chocolate loved by so many Koreans is the very name of the country where I have lived my life, Ghana,” Choi wrote.
He described the scene of standing with President Mahama, smiling while holding the chocolate, as one that filled him with deep emotion and pride.
Choi added that, echoing President Mahama’s words during his conversation with President Lee, he hopes the relationship between Ghana and Korea will continue to grow stronger, warmer, and deeper, just like the sweetness of chocolate.
“Standing today with the presidents of both countries, smiling while holding that chocolate, filled my heart with deep emotion,” he said.
“As President Mahama shared in his conversation with President Lee, I hope that, just like the sweetness of chocolate, the relationship between Ghana and Korea will grow deeper and warmer,” he added.
He concluded with a call for Koreans to see Ghana not only as the name of a chocolate brand but as a nation of people with dreams, and myriad possibilities — a country they can embrace as a close friend.
“Ghana and Korea are truly close friends, friends whose friendship is as sweet as chocolate,” he stated.
