The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed the arrest of a man captured in a viral video attacking a nurse at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic.

In a statement issued on June 5, 2026, signed by Dr Robert Amesiya, Regional Director of Health Service for the Greater Accra Region, the Directorate condemned the assault on a staff member at the facility after the video circulated widely on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on June 2, 2026, when the nurse, a midwife, was enforcing visiting hours at the polyclinic.

According to the statement, the attack was unprovoked and carried out by a patient’s relative who had been asked to leave the facility.

The Directorate expressed its support for the affected staff member and other health workers, stressing the importance of their safety in the line of duty.

“We stand firmly behind the affected midwife and every member of staff across our facilities. They come to work to serve the public, and they must be able to do so without fear of physical harm,” the statement said.

It further commended the Ghana Police Service for its swift response, which led to the arrest of the suspect and restored calm at the facility.

“We commend the Ghana Police Service for their swift response, which restored calm to the facility and led to the arrest of the individual alleged to have carried out the attack,” it added.

The suspect is expected to appear before court on Monday, June 8, 2026.

The Health Directorate warned that violence against health workers will not be tolerated and urged the public to use proper complaint channels instead of resorting to attacks.

“Violence against health workers will not be tolerated,” the statement noted.

“Per the directive of the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, all grievances must be channelled to the Client Service Desk, which is present in every Ghana Health Service facility. Assault is not a channel for redress, and it will not be treated as one,” it stated.
