A distraught father is demanding justice for his seven-year-old son, Okyem Nyamekye Mustbedone, who was allegedly beaten by his headmistress after being accused of stealing money at school.

The father of the victim shared his son’s ordeal on Oyerepa Afutuo programme on June 3, 2026, where he recounted how the incident left his son injured and hospitalised.

Videos sighted by GhanaWeb showed the father in tears as he narrated the incident.

Other videos showed the boy's bare back covered with large cane marks. The child also appeared unable to move his left arm and had a visibly hunched posture.

According to the father, his son, who is in KG2, was accused of stealing money belonging to the school.

"Initially they claimed the missing money was GH¢300 but I later found out when I went to the school that it was actually GH¢120. My son said he did not steal the money but after they accused him of the act despite pleas from his teacher that he was innocence. However, the headmistress insisted that my son was the culprit," he said.

The father alleged that the headmistress subjected the child to severe punishment despite his denial and the intervention of his class teacher.

"She made some senior students pin down my son's hands and legs, stripped him naked and took him from class to class while beating him continuously until they ended at the JHS 1 class. She took my son to the office and stamped on him with her legs causing my son's arm to be fractured," he alleged.

He said he noticed changes in the child's condition when he returned home and immediately sought medical attention.

"When my son came home his posture had become crooked. I reported the case to the police and was given a medical report. I took him to the hospital afterwards for treatment. The doctor said my son had fractured his arm and he would need some medication to help straighten his arm," he stated.

According to the father, another pupil later admitted to taking the money, clearing his son of any wrongdoing.

"The actual culprit later came out to confess of his crime leaving my son actually innocent. My son was hospitalized for a week. The teachers came but failed to visit him at the hospital," he narrated.

The father also disclosed that his son experienced developmental delays while growing up, which affected when he started school.

"My son's development as a child was late. He started talking at the age of 4 years. He didn't start schooling early due to that, that is why he is in KG 2 at the age of 7," he explained.

The father is now calling on the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure justice is served.
