The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly has begun a demolition exercise targeting crime-prone ghettos in communities such as Shiabu, Gbegbeyise and Glefe as part of efforts to clamp down on illegal activities involving some youth in the area.
Speaking to ChannelOne TV during the operation on May 11, 2026, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West, George Kpakpo Allotey, said the exercise was being carried out by the assembly’s taskforce in collaboration with the Dansoman Police.
Kpakpo Allotey further noted that repeated warnings to occupants of the ghettos had gone unheeded, forcing the assembly to act following complaints from residents and parents.
“So far, one person has been arrested and is assisting the police with investigations. This will not stop today. Once we have started, we will make sure we get rid of all these illegal activities,” he stated.
He further disclosed that exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, were retrieved during the exercise.
The demolition exercise is expected to continue for more than a week in some coastal communities within the municipality.
