Former Jomoro Constituency Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Patrick Ellonu, has been disqualified from contesting the Constituency Secretary position.
Ellonu, a two-term Communications Officer, had successfully filed his nomination but was disqualified by the NDC Western Regional Vetting Committee after the vetting exercise held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Bonyere Junction.
Sources close to the vetting committee told this reporter that his disqualification was due to errors identified in his nomination forms.
Patrick Ellonu is said to have petitioned the Regional Executives on Monday to overturn the decision, but the decision still stands.
This reporter has also learnt that a former Constituency Treasurer, Francis Yahya, who filed to contest the Vice Chairman position, has also been disqualified.
The development has generated mixed reactions among party faithful in the constituency, with some describing it as shocking and a deliberate plot against Patrick Ellonu.
In a telephone interview with this reporter, Ellonu described the situation as sad and unfortunate and accused the incumbent Constituency Secretary, Emmanuel Ndako Benle, of masterminding his disqualification.
"Please, this is deliberate because they know that I will defeat the incumbent Secretary. The incumbent Secretary used his brother, who is the Director of Elections, to work against me," he alleged.
"Look at the kind of work I did when I was the Constituency Communications Officer. How can you disqualify someone who had been a Constituency officer before? It is like they don't want unity in the party," he added.
"What at all have I done in Jomoro NDC for them to forget the kind of sacrifices I have made for the party? In fact, what they have done to me is painful," he lamented.
He further questioned why attempts are always made to divide the party whenever it becomes united.
"Why is it that anytime Jomoro NDC is united, some people try to disunite the party for the NPP to take advantage? Because this same internal mafia caused us to lose the Jomoro Parliamentary seat in 2016 to the NPP for the first time," he stated.
He is therefore appealing to the National Executives to intervene to restore unity in the constituency.
As it stands now, the incumbent Secretary, Emmanuel Ndako Benle, is running unopposed.
The Constituency Executives Election is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Efforts to reach Ndako Benle and the Regional Executives for comments proved futile at the time of filing this report.
