The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama would remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, only if there is compelling evidence of wrongdoing against her.
According to him, the President is satisfied with the performance of the EC chairperson and would allow her to remain in office unless there are grounds for taking action against her.
Speaking on The Key Points, aired on TV3 on October 17, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu clarified that President Mahama has no appetite for removing Jean Mensa from office without compelling reasons.

“As far as President Mahama is concerned, no basis has been established for the removal of Jean Mensa. I can also assure you that he's not, he has no appetite to do such a thing unless there is absolutely compelling and serious evidence of wrongdoing against her or any other person that requires a certain course of action. But President Mahama is not inclined to remove any head of a constitutional or independent body just for the sake of it,” he said.
The minister further indicated that although petitions had been submitted calling for Mensa’s removal, they had not established compelling grounds for her dismissal.
He added that President Mahama will not act on partisan considerations or remove the head of a state institution merely to satisfy certain individuals.
“I'm not aware of any such evidence that has come to light. I may have to check with the president's secretary to see if they received anything in the months between the dismissal of the initial petition and now.
"But as I sit here, I can assure you there's no such appetite on the part of the president to do any such thing. And the president, by nature, is not one inclined to take actions purely based on partisan consideration,” he said.
