The Government of Ghana has declared Monday, September 21, 2026, as a statutory public holiday to observe Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day across the country.

The announcement was contained in an official statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

In the statement, the Minister urged the general public to observe the day in accordance with the statutory provisions governing public holidays in the country.

“The general public is hereby informed that Monday, 21st September 2026 marks Founder’s Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the Minister stated.

The national holiday honours the birthday and legacy of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, recognising his role in the country’s struggle for independence and his contributions to Pan-Africanism.

Businesses, government offices, financial institutions and schools across all 16 regions are expected to remain closed on the day as Ghanaians observe the national holiday.
