Ghana’s growing reputation as a digital leader in Africa has received fresh international recognition following a high-level engagement between the country’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare, and the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), Deemah AlYahya.
In a post shared on X, AlYahya described Ghana as “a strong example of Africa’s rise as a digital hub,” pointing to the country’s impressive 75 percent internet penetration and 119 percent mobile connectivity as indicators of its rapid digital growth.
The meeting, held at the DCO headquarters, saw Ambassador Sinare formally present his credentials as Ghana’s Diplomatic Liaison to the organisation.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for both sides to explore ways to deepen collaboration in advancing Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
According to AlYahya, discussions focused on Ghana’s progress in leveraging digital technologies for development and how the DCO could further support the country’s ambitions.
She explained that Ghana’s performance in digital adoption for social inclusion stands at 73.1 percent, based on the DCO’s Digital Economy Navigator — an indicator she said reflects the country’s “remarkable digital momentum.”
Ghana is a member state of the DCO, a multilateral organisation committed to accelerating inclusive and sustainable growth in the digital economy.
The latest engagement signals a renewed commitment to strengthening cooperation between Ghana and the organisation as both parties work towards advancing digital transformation and promoting inclusive digital prosperity.
The DCO Secretary-General reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to partner with Ghana in driving initiatives that expand access, enhance innovation, and ensure that the benefits of digitalisation are widely shared.
Ghana, with around 75% nationwide internet penetration + 119% mobile connectivity, is a strong example of Africa’s rise as a digital hub.
