Following an earlier GhanaWeb report about a family that went viral on social media for using human excreta in cooking, new details have emerged.

It will be recalled that on March 21, 2026, GhanaWeb reported that an elderly woman in her 50s, identified as Leticia Okine, and her two children became a topic of discussion online after reportedly admitting to cooking with urine and faeces at their residence at Bulemi Top in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Following the report, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, visited the family.

According to a report by 3news.com, the minister disclosed that the family has been taken to the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination.

Further details indicate that after the initial assessment of Leticia Okine and her two children, they will be referred to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for further mental health evaluation and care.

“The President has instructed me to carry out comprehensive social interventions, but given the situation, the immediate priority is to address their health needs. We will conduct the necessary assessments, and once we gather the required information, we will proceed with the next steps.
