GMA marks International Day for Women in maritime

The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has joined the global community to mark the International Day for Women in Maritime, honoring the invaluable achievements and contributions of women across the sector.

In a statement dated May 18, 2026, the Authority praised women for their courage, innovation and dedication in various fields of the sector, including seafaring, port operations, engineering, law and leadership.

According to the Authority, women continue to break barriers and drive progress within the maritime industry, contributing significantly to the growth and development of the sector.

The statement reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting gender inclusion and empowering women and girls in maritime.

It also stressed that diversity and equal participation remain critical to unlocking innovation and strengthening Ghana’s maritime sector.

“The Ghana Maritime Authority proudly joins the global community in marking the International Day for Women in Maritime, celebrating the courage, innovation, and achievements of women across the sector,” the statement said.

It further called on government institutions, industry stakeholders and development partners to support initiatives aimed at mentoring and advancing women in maritime professions.

“Together, let us sail toward a future where every woman’s potential is fully realised,” the Authority stated.

The Authority also paid tribute to women in the maritime fraternity, applauding their dedication and achievements, which it said continue to inspire future generations and propel the industry forward.
