The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Samuel Basintale Amadu, has unveiled a package of welfare and infrastructure initiatives aimed at significantly improving the working conditions of officers within the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

During a two-day working visit to selected Immigration commands within the Greater Accra Region, the CGI engaged officers and familiarised himself with their operational efficiency.

He acknowledged the challenges officers encounter in the discharge of their duties and assured them of the government’s steadfast support in addressing these concerns.

The welfare initiatives include the provision of buses to facilitate transportation, strategic partnerships with companies to finance motorbikes and tricycles for interested officers, the launch of accessible low-interest loan schemes, and the establishment of a mutual health insurance scheme.

Additionally, he announced collaborations with firms to supply building materials for officers’ housing needs, repayable through convenient instalment plans.

Regarding infrastructure development, the CGI highlighted the ongoing construction of modern offices in seven regions. These will be complemented by an efficient shift system to optimise the use of existing facilities pending completion.

He underscored the importance of punctuality, accountability, and the prudent use of official resources, cautioning that any misuse would attract appropriate sanctions.

On promotions, he explained that revisions to the GIS establishment structure are underway to ensure that future advancements align with the availability of vacancies.

The CGI commended officers for their dedication and urged them to remain committed to building a more resilient Immigration Service, while advancing excellence in migration management and border security.

As part of the visit, CGI Amadu toured the Adenta and Legon sectors, as well as the Abokobi District Command.

He was accompanied by the Greater Accra Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Beatrice Opkoti; Chief Staff Officer, Assistant Commissioner Gordon Saah; and Head of Protocol, Deputy Superintendent Barbara Sam.
