Management of Bills Micro-Credit Limited has suspended field officers captured in a viral video showing an altercation with a woman carrying a baby and handed them over to the Ghana Police Service for investigation.

The company announced the decision in an update following an earlier statement that acknowledged the incident circulating widely on social media.

According to the statement, the action was taken on the directive of the company’s Board while investigations into the incident continue.

“Following the earlier statement issued by Management regarding the incident captured in a video circulating on social media, Bills Micro-Credit Limited wishes to provide the following update.

“Upon the directive of the Board, the officers involved in the incident have been immediately suspended by the company pending the outcome of investigations. In addition, the officers have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with independent investigations into the matter.

“The Board has also reached out to the customer involved and will continue to engage with her as the investigations proceed.

“Bills Micro-Credit Limited reiterates its commitment to professional conduct, accountability, and full cooperation with law enforcement authorities. The company will provide further updates as appropriate,” the management said.

In its earlier communication, the company described the incident as a matter of serious concern and indicated that it was working to establish the full facts. Management noted that the video footage suggests the woman attempted to retrieve a mobile phone from one of the officers while carrying the baby, during which she reportedly fell.

The Board of the microcredit firm has also reached out to the customer involved and says it will continue to engage with her as investigations progress.
