A firefighter has reportedly been electrocuted while fighting a major fire at Sunshine Apartment in Suhum.

"ADO Daniel Opare Ohene Akonnor sustained an electrical injury during the operation,” the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said.

Firefighters from Suhum Municipal Fire Station, the Regional Fire Station, and Bunso Fire Station battled the blaze for over two hours before containing it, adomonline.com reported on May 13, 2026.

The fire hit a 27-room apartment facility that also houses a conference hall and reception area.

"12 rooms were destroyed, while 15 rooms, 16 adjoining rooms, and nearby structures were salvaged," GNFS said.

Investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
