The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with other security and regulatory agencies, has supervised the destruction of a 40-foot container of non-compliant, unhygienic diapers imported from Spain to prevent them from entering the Ghanaian market.

The container, which contained loose, unpackaged bale diapers deemed unfit for the market, was intercepted during a joint inspection at the Tema Port involving the FDA, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division, and National Security.

The seized products were subsequently disposed of at the Vigour Safe Disposal Site at Shai Hills under the supervision of the FDA and other stakeholders.

According to the FDA, the disposal exercise was carried out at the expense of the importer, who was also required to pay the applicable statutory fines.

In a post shared on its Facebook timeline, the Authority urged importers to obtain all necessary regulatory approvals before bringing products into the country.

The FDA said the action was aimed at preventing unsafe and non-compliant products from reaching consumers while reinforcing compliance with Ghana's import and product safety requirements.
