The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested eight suspected highway robbers in an intelligence-led operation linked to a robbery attack on the Mampong-Ejura Highway.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service Public Affairs Unit on March 31, 2026, the operation was carried out in collaboration with personnel from the NOD Surveillance Unit Headquarters in Accra.
The arrests follow a robbery incident that occurred on March 26, 2026, at about 3:30 pm near Aframso Bridge, where six-armed men reportedly attacked a SsangYong minibus driver, Appiah Joseph, who was transporting 14 passengers from Kumasi to Atebubu.
The attackers robbed the victims of cash and mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

According to the statement, following the incident, police gathered intelligence and mounted surveillance on the suspects.
“Acting on the information, a special operations team moved to Amakwa Dadey Hotel at Ejura on March 30, 2026, at about 3:20 p.m., where the suspects were found allegedly sharing money believed to be proceeds from the robbery. He was rushed to the Mampong Government Hospital and later referred to the Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
During the operation, police retrieved items believed to be linked to the robbery, including two live AK-47 rounds of ammunition, three cutlasses, a cash sum of GH¢15,717.00, a talisman, an ID card, eight mobile phones and a side bag.
The remaining suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital morgue for preservation and further action.
