The Queen Mother of Nsuta, Asieduaa Aduwaa II, has opposed plans to relocate traders to make way for a proposed 24‑Hour Economy market project in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region.
In a video shared by UTV Ghana on July 30, 2026, the Nsutahemaa insisted that traders cannot be moved unless an alternative market has been provided.
She, however, noted that once a new market is built and made available, she will not hesitate to enforce the law by directing traders to move there.
“They are asking us to move from here when we have not been given any new market. Personally, I will not allow that to happen. But once I confirm that a new market has been built, I will lead the people there myself,” she said.
“I do not agree with them because this is the market where the people sell to feed themselves. If you ask them to vacate the current market without an alternative, how will they survive?” she quizzed.
The project forms part of the government’s nationwide 24-Hour Economy initiative, which aims to establish modern model markets across the 261 districts.

Features planned for such markets typically include lockable shops and warehouses, cold storage, a clinic, police and fire stations, a day-care centre, restaurants, a lorry station, improved sanitation, and 24/7 banking services.
The goal, according to the government, is to support continuous commercial activity, reduce unemployment, and upgrade ageing trading infrastructure.
Earlier, in June 2026, the District Chief Executive of Sekyere Central, Samuel Somuah, cut the sod for the market at Nsuta.
The Paramount Chief of Nsuta, Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere II, welcomed the development at the time, noting the town’s long history as a trading hub whose infrastructure had not kept pace with growth.
The project is also intended to revive and modernise local commerce.
