In a chilling account of a dawn operation, a gang of armed robbers intercepted several commercial buses on the highway, specifically targeting passengers traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi.

According to a report shared by STATENEWSS on their X page on February 5, 2026, the robbery took place during the early hours of Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

“A group of people traveling on a night bus from Kumasi to Takoradi at dawn on February 4 were stopped by armed robbers on the highway. The attackers reportedly stated they were only interested in cash, not mobile phones,” the post stated.

The victims’ bus, which was the second in a convoy of vehicles coming from the Ashanti regional capital, was stopped by the gunmen as it made its way toward the Western Region.

In an unusual twist to the typical highway robbery, witnesses noted that the attackers were specific about their loot.

Passengers recounted that the robbers explicitly stated they were not interested in mobile phones or electronic gadgets, focusing their demands entirely on physical cash.

"They told us they didn't want our phones; they only wanted money," a victim noted.

The operation was described as well-coordinated and lengthy. Upon stopping the vehicles, the robbers forced all passengers to disembark and lie face-down on the pavement.

For over 30 minutes, the travelers remained in that vulnerable position while the gang systematically ransacked the buses and searched individuals for money.

The attackers reportedly intercepted several other buses during the same window, creating a blockade that left multiple vehicles at their mercy.

After securing an undisclosed amount of cash, the robbers fled the scene into the surrounding darkness.

No fatalities or physical injuries have been reported at the time of filing this report, though many passengers were left deeply traumatised by the ordeal.

This latest incident has reignited calls for increased police visibility and frequent patrols on major transit corridors, particularly during the "danger hours" between midnight and dawn.
