Tensions erupted at the Tema Central office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) after some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) forcibly locked up the facility in protest over what they describe as unfair and exclusionary appointments.

In a video shared by JoyNews, the aggrieved executives are seen confronting officials at the NHIS office before proceeding to lock the premises with chains and padlocks, effectively halting operations.

The protesters accused authorities of sidelining loyal party members in the recent appointment process, alleging that individuals with no known ties to the party were given positions at the expense of committed NDC supporters.

Despite attempts by some individuals at the scene to calm tensions, the situation remained charged as the group insisted they would not allow the office to operate until their concerns were addressed.

The action led to the temporary shutdown of services at the NHIS office, leaving several residents stranded and unable to access healthcare-related services.

As of the time of filing this report, officials of the National Health Insurance Authority were yet to issue an official response to the incident.

Meanwhile, party sources say discussions are ongoing to resolve the impasse and restore normal operations.

The incident has sparked public debates about political interference in public institutions and the impact of internal party disputes on essential public services.
