The Swedru Circuit Court has jailed two men and fined another over a savage cutlass fight at Akyem Oda that went viral on social media.

George Okyere, 43; Evans Adayele, 20; and Joseph Nyabaah, 26; appeared before the court for a bloody confrontation at the New Station Area, myjoyonline.com reported on May 16, 2026.

The incident, captured on amateur video and widely shared online, sparked a national debate over the use of weapons in residential areas.

All three pleaded guilty to fighting with a weapon and causing harm under Sections 203 and 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Adayele and Nyabaah were each sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Okyere was fined 500 penalty units, amounting to GH₵6,000, and ordered to sign a three-year bond of good behaviour.

The court warned that he faces further jail time if he breaches the peace.

Okyere told the court he had gone to buy Wellington boots when Adayele and Nyabaah intercepted him in a vehicle.

He said tensions escalated after he identified himself, though the prior grievance remains unclear.

"He admitted taking part in the fight and using a cutlass in public once the situation spiralled out of control," the court records noted, indicating his confession to engaging in the armed brawl once the situation spiralled out of control.

The court noted none of the three had a prior criminal record, which saved them from maximum custodial sentences.

However, the judge stressed that using dangerous weapons in public posed a serious risk to bystanders and public safety, the report said.
