The Adwoa Safo Foundation, a philanthropic non-governmental organisation known for supporting the needy and disadvantaged in society, has donated assorted relief items to the Osu Children’s Home in Accra.

The items donated included 20 packs of bottled water, five packs each of canned Coca-Cola, Malt and Fanta, two jumbo bunches of plantain chips, eight tubers of yam, five gallons of oil, five boxes of baby wipes, two boxes of sardines, a pack of kitchen tissue paper, five boxes of Dettol, four cartons of Milo, five boxes of Indomie noodles, 10 gallons of detergent and three packs of toilet rolls.

Speaking during the presentation, the Founder of the Foundation, Adwoa Safo, said the gesture formed part of efforts to continue the humanitarian legacy of her late father, Emeritus Professor Kwadwo Safo.

According to the former three-term Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, giving to vulnerable children and the less privileged was one of the cherished values upheld by her father throughout his lifetime.

“The last time we were here was in 2022, but this has always been one of the cherished acts of benevolence by my father.

"I remember during our childhood days, I used to accompany him to this home where he donated food items and cash support to the children,” she stated.

Adwoa Safo disclosed that the Foundation embarked on a sponsorship drive to raise funds for the donation exercise, adding that several companies and individuals readily supported the initiative because of its humanitarian purpose.

She expressed appreciation to the sponsors and institutions that contributed towards the success of the donation exercise, including Special Ice Company, Keldan Estates, KS Group, Kantanka Automobile Company Ltd, and the Wofa Seko Group from the Accra Newtown branch of Kristo Asafo Mission.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Home, the Acting Assistant Manageress, Prisca Asare, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the kind gesture and appealed to corporate organisations and benevolent individuals to continue supporting the facility.

She noted that the Home was currently undertaking several projects that required urgent assistance from public-spirited individuals and organisations.

According to her, the projects include the completion of a store building, renovation of the dressmaking unit, independent living support for older children, and repainting of the entire facility.
