El Makasa open talks with Medeama over Asamoah

Egyptian club Misr El Makasa SC have tabled an offer to snap up Medeama SC’s leading marksman Nathaniel Asamoah, as both sides continue talks to decide the future of the striker ahead of the second round of Ghana Premier League.

The 25-year-old, who came close to clinching the domestic league top scorer award in the 2011-12 season, has enjoyed a remarkable first round this term after scoring 12 goals in 15 matches, and currently leads the goal king race, four above second placed Gilbert Fiamenyo of Hearts of Oak.

Asamoah’s 12 goals represented 57 per cent of Medeama’s total goals in the first round of the GPL. He won the Player of the Month of March.

Medeama’s CEO James Essilfie has confirmed interest from several clubs but insists only El Makasa have presented an official offer.

“There have being several offers for Asamoah but currently, El Makasa are the only club to have presented an official offer,” Essilfie told Best FM.

“Sudan's Al Merriekh and other clubs in Algeria and Tunisia have also shown interest in him but there is nothing official from their end so the future will decide,” he said.

El Makasa are lying fourth on the Egyptian Premier League log with 48 points, 15 behind leaders Zamalek, with five matches remaining.

Asamoah joined champions Asante Kotoko in 2011 from Wa All Stars before signing for Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade a year later. He returned to Ghana in 2013 and opted to join Medeama amid an avalanche of offers from local sides.

Former Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic handed Asamoah a call up to the Black Stars in 2011 for a double header against Swaziland and Brazil.
