Awal eager to extend Maritzburg contract

Maritzburg United defender Awal Mohammed has emerged as a target for Eredivisie side FC Twente when the European transfer window re-opens next month but the Ghanaian International insists he is eager to extend his contract with the PSL side.

Awal, whose contract expires at the end of the current season, is reported to be on the radar of Orlando Pirates, but the tough tackling 26 year old defender is only thinking about the team of choice.

“I know for sure that my contract with Maritzburg United will expire at the end of this season, so I’m just waiting patiently for my time here. To be truthful, I have really enjoyed my stay with this club and I’m hoping things will work well for me in the next few months.”

“I have read about clubs chasing for my services, I’m told there are clubs in Europe and even in South Africa, but nothing concrete has been discussed.”

“As a footballer, you have to focus on training and playing week in and week out, you don’t involve yourself in the transfers, that is for your agent.”

“I want to keep playing for Maritzburg United, they have done an excellent work for me since day one and I will not turn my back on them, if I’m given a contract now, I will not hesitate but to sign.”
