Leicester City keen on signing Daniel Amartey, but ....

Daniel Amartey. Daniel Amartey.

Leicester City are closing on a deal for FC Copenhagen defender Daniel Amartey.

The Foxes failed with a bid of €6 million for Amartey last week, but are returning with an improved offer of €8 million this week.

Ekstra Bladet says Daryll Powell, representing Leicester, is in Copenhagen to negotiate terms over a deal for the Ghanaian.

Amartey has also been linked with Olympique Marseille.

But the player favours a move to England and would be happy to join fellow Ghanaian Jeffrey Schlupp at the King Power stadium.

Marseille rivalling Leicester for Daniel Amartey

According to Danish media outlet Ekstra Bladet, Marseille are rivalling Premier League side Leicester City over the possible signing of defensive midfielder come central defender Daniel Amartey.

A representative from the Premier League side is currently in Copenhagen in an attempt to close a £5.5m deal, but OM have also been in negotiations with the FC Copenhagen for the player. OM want to close the deal for around €6m, but Leicester are likely to have greater pulling power.

Copenhagen debunk Amartey sale reports

Danish giants FC Copenhagen have swiftly rejected claims of entering fresh negotiations to sell Ghana's Daniel Amartey.

The versatile youngster has been courted by several clubs this summer with Leicester City and Olympique Marseille said to be very keen on landing him.

Reports in the Danish media had claimed a bidding war between the two sides over the past week with Leicester officials said to have even arrived to negotiate a purchase but Copenhagen director Anders Hørsholt has refuted the rumours that talks of the sale of the Ghana international is under way.

"We have not received any bids for Daniel Amartey since one was rejected earlier in the summer," he said to the club's website.

Leicester, who were reported to have had an initial £4.5 million bid rejected, are said to have upped their offer by a million pounds with Marseille hoping to close the deal for a fee around €6 million.

Despite his denial, Hørsholt further stated that FC Copenhagen could be forced to sell should the club receive an attractive offer for the former Djurgården defender.

"Should there be one that is attractive enough, then we will evaluate what is best for FC Copenhagen and will announce this via the usual procedure," Anders Hørsholt added.

Amartey has been out on suspension after receiving a straight red card in Copenhagen's stalemate with Nordsjaelland on August 9.
