Liberty wallop Olympics

Liberty Professionals snapped a two-match losing streak against Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, smashing Great Olympics 4-0, the highest at the ongoing LG Top Four Tournament at Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

It was the first victory for the Dansoman-based club, one of the pre-tournament favourites who faltered in the opening two matches. They are now third on three points from three matches while Olympics are stuck at the bottom of the standings at the end of their first round matches.

All goals were scored in the second half within a spate of 20 minutes as Asamoah Gyan, kid brother of Baffour Gyan and a grandaunt of the VALCO Academicals fetched two.

Both teams did not play excitingly well in the first half as they looked les-motivated after losing two of their matches and failed to create any clear cut chance in the half.

However, it was Olympics who could have shot ahead in the half, when Winfred Dormon had only keeper Theodore Atsu to beat but surprisingly froze infront of goal.

In the second half, Liberty looked more determined to carry the day as they mounted pressure on the Dade Boys with the introduction of injury-prone David Boateng and Samuel Hanson for Jonathan Quartey and Nii Ayi Alex respectively.

The pressure yielded dividend when striker William Tierro capitalised on aloose ball, to beat keeper Atsu for the first goal in the 55th minute. As if the goals were well rehearsed before the game, Liberty operated from the same angle and finished off almost in the same fashion.

Yamoah provided all the crosses for his colleagues to do the damages. First he placed the ball on the path of Asamoah Gyan who raced into the Olympics defence before putting the ball beyond the keeper for the second goal five minutes later.

Olympics responded with a swift attack in the 72nd minute but substitute Amui Quaye' shot was saved by keeper Kotei Blankson.

Yamoah, in a similar fashion, picked a ball on the break and lobbed it for Hanson to deliver a bullet shot which deflected off the body of an Olympics defender before entering the net for the third goal in the 74th minute.

Gyan sealed the coffin on Olympics in the 75th minute, connecting an excellent Yamoah's cross for the fourth goal and his personal second.

Liberty's William Tierro won the best player of the match and was presented with both an LG and Coca Cola products.
