Christopher Opoku, a member of the Media Committee of the Ghana Brazil 2014 World Cup, on Thursday, told the Justice Senyo Dzamefe Commission that, he withdrew from the committee because he felt, they were side-stepped.

Mr. Opoku, who appeared before the Commission, said, he felt their committee was kept in the dark and his appointment as the Spokesperson was not relevant hence the decision.

“My Lord as the spokesperson, information was not coming to me to do the work and a lot of work was going on without our knowledge.

“I sent an email to the ex-Minister of Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie- Ankrah informing him of my decision to resign from the committee.

“The minister called me and apologised and asked me to stay on. I agreed but things never changed.”

According to him, he turned down an invitation to travel to Brazil, prior to the start of the competition, because he felt he did not play a role in the scheme of things.

“I did not feel part of the team, because we were not allowed to do our work. That is why I did not travel with the team”, he said.

Mr Opoku said, he was not aware who took over from him as the Spokesperson of the Planning Committee but added that, his observation shows that, the ex-Minister and Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah did most of the talking after.

Opoku, however stated that the Black Stars have been over monetised, hence there was the need to ensure collaboration between the GFA and MOYS over payment of players.

He also called for the need to allocate funds for the development of grassroot football and coaches.
