Kotoko are favourites - coach Mintah

Kumasi Asante Kotoko are favourites to win the top of the league clash with Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium on Sunday, according to Dwarfs coach Prof. Joseph Mintah.

Dwarfs go into the game on a four-match winning streak which has seen them humiliate CAF Champions League campaigners 4:1 and also beating Real Tamale United 2:0 in their last league game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

But the porcupine warriors recorded their six drawn game in the season following their 0:0 drawn game with New Edubiase United, which left them three points off the title chase.

In an interview with www.liquidsportsghana.com, ahead of the game on Sunday, Dwarfs coach Prof. Joseph Kwesi Mintah said he believes his side is the underdog going into the game given the pedigree of Kotoko in the league.

“They (Kotoko) are the defending champions, so they are favourites,” Prof Mintah told www.liquidsportsghana.com

“We are coming in as Dwarfs and our goal is to play the game and let the day determine what comes out of it.”

When asked which strategy Dwarfs will use against Kotoko, Prof. Mintah hinted that his team will stick to their own game saying, “just play. We’re not going to frustrate them. We’re going to play.”

The ‘Abontua Bontua boys’, have received the plaudits for their recent form which has seen them climb to third on the league table, just a point behind leaders Aduana Stars. But Prof Mintah is not getting carried away yet and says other teams should not harbor fears of playing Dwarfs.

“I wouldn’t say that (teams should be afraid of Dwarfs). But they should come and face us.”

Meanwhile, the supporters of the two teams are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the game in Oguaman (Cape Coast). Kotoko halted Dwarfs’s unbeaten run last season in the tenth week, and Dwarfs fans have also promised to do same to the porcupines in Cape Coast.
