Former Coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah is set to take over the Sudan National Team coaching job from Mohammed Abdullah who resigned on Monday following the Crocodiles 4-0 loss to Gabon.

Mohamed Abdalla Ahmed, nicknamed Mazda, announced his resignation, officially, as coach of the Sudan’s National Football Team shortly after his team received a humiliating 0-4 in Libreville, Gabon.

According to the Sudanese FA, a new caretaker coach will be named this week to take the Nile Crocodiles through the World Cup qualifiers in November, with Ghana’s 2014 World Cup coach Kwesi Appiah strongly tipped for the position.

Sports Crusader can confirm that Kwesi Appiah’s current club, Khartoum SC have received an official request from the Sudan Football Association to release the Ghanaian for the National Team job.

“He (Kwesi Appiah) was expected to spend some weeks here after the George Arthur funeral but he received an emergency call to return to Khartoum as soon as possible because the Sudan FA needs to speak to him”, aide of the former Black Stars coach told Sportcrusader.

“They have put in a request at his club that they want him to replace their coach who resigned and the club also want to hear from Kwesi himself if he will like the national team job either on full time or part time basis”, he added

The former Black Stars skipper arrived in Ghana this week to mourn the death of his ex playmate George Arthur, but has received an emergency call from Al Khartoum FC chairman Mamoun Bashir Elnefiedi to return to Sudan with immediate effect.

Kwesi Appiah led Ghana as the first indigenous coach to qualify the Black Stars to the World Cup, beating the Sudan National Team twice in the qualifiers.

Mazda, who has been in charge of the Sudan team since 2007 said in press statements published by Sudan News Agency that he has informed the Sudan Football Association that the match would be his last one with the national team. It was said he was not happy with the way the Association handles the national teams.

He lamented the way the players were randomly picked up without proper selection process, lacking any preparatory clashes or trial opportunities before they were dumped into fierce African competitions. He argued that the players were picked from the two leading clubs in the country, a reference to bias, at the expense of individual merits.

According to sportscrusader.com sources, Appiah will leave Ghana latest by Friday and is expected to meet the top hierarchy of the Sudan FA on Monday to begin negotiations.
