Sixty-two Ghanaian Premier League, women’s league and division one league clubs will for the next four years be kitted by Turkish-based kit manufacturers Fitcom.

This was after representatives of the six-two clubs appended their signatures to contracts offered by the company at a short ceremony held in Accra.

The President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Cudjoe Fianoo described the ceremony as a ‘landmark revolution in our game’ which will help brand and identify the various clubs as ‘business entities’.

“We are here talking about a landmark revolution in our game. When we talk about sponsorship it's not just branding, it about identification. As a business entity, you have to identify yourself. Yesterday (Wednesday) I watched the game in Accra and I saw something that struck me. What struck me first was branding”.

“Two, Hearts of Oak, 1911 bare chest nothing to show or acknowledge sponsors. Liberty Professionals, half of the team was branded in Betway, the other bare chest”.

He hoped for mutually beneficial a relationship between the clubs and the company and appealed to the sixty-two clubs to use the platforms available to them to promote and sell the company.

Aspiring GFA President and broker of the contract, Nana Yaw Amponsah said that the deal forms of part of his long term plans of ensuring that Ghanaian clubs are well branded.

“When I started running football in Ghana I decided to brand my team very well and you all bear witness to how Phar Rangers was kitted in Ghana. I did that in anticipation that people will look and try and learn but at some point I realized it was having the reverse effect. I realized that some people were not happy with the idea that you alone can brand.

“So I set out to help everybody come at the same level because as I always say you cannot have Heaven within a hell. So I went out and based on some of my relationships I managed to secure this. As I said earlier initially it was for 20 clubs but I felt that the 20 was just enough to cover the female premiership clubs so it was important that I go out there to convince them to do it for the rest of the teams. Kit sponsorship in any shape or form is crucial for any football club.
The deal will see the Fitcom supply the clubs with sixty pieces of home and away jerseys as well as training kits, tracksuits and polo shirts.

Some of clubs that accepted the offer to be kitted by fitcom include Techiman Eleven Wonders, Bechem United, Karela FC, New Edubiase, B.A. United, Nea Salamina, Achiken FC, King Faisal, Nkoranza Warriors, Sporting Mirren and Nania.

Each of the men’s premier and division one clubs is required to sell 500 replica jerseys whereas the women are expected to sell 200 replicas.
