New Edubiase have withdrawn from the GHALCA Glo G8 citing poor officiating after losing the tournament’s opener 2-1 to Berekum Chelsea on Saturday.
The Bekwai-based side alleged Chelsea striker Musa Mohammed was in an offside position but was played on by referee Awal Mohammed and his assistant for the winning goal on 73rd minutes.
The former Etoile Filante striker got behind the Edubiase but was played by centre-back Carlos Coffie.
Edubiase president Abdul Salam Mumuni exclusively told GHANAsoccernet:” We have been talking a lot about referees in Ghana for a long time and its time this issue stops once and for all.
“We have decided that we are not playing in the tournament anymore and we have informed the GHALCA executives present about our motive so we are going back to prepare for the league.
“Everything in Ghana now it is Chelsea, Chelsea why.”
He added that: “I can assure you these protests and withdrawals against match officials will hit the league this year and you’ll all see many teams pulling out of the league due to dubious referee decisions.”
New Edubiase coach Anthony Commey also confirmed the club’s decision to pull out of the maiden pre-season tourney.
“This is a deliberate attempt to make useless all the training and preparation we have had and for that matter we can’t continue the tournament.”
