Government committed to developing sports infrastructure - Akufo-Addo

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President for the Republic of Ghana, has noted at the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2019, that his government, is fully committed to developing sports in the country through the provision of sporting infrastructure.

According to the President, there would be a major upgrade on various sporting facilities across the nation, as new ones would also be built for the 2023 All African Games scheduled for Ghana.

“We are going to see a massive improvement in the sporting facilities in the country, where there would be upgrades on the existing sporting facilities, as new ones would be built.On football related issues, the President said “plans are far advanced in normalizing our football as the Normalization Committee chaired by Dr. Kofi Amoah, which was instituted by the Federation of International African Football Association (FIFA) are putting in measures to bring normalcy into football activities in Ghana.

“The University of Ghana sports stadium, which has been abandoned for years would also be completed soon, as funds have been released for that purpose,” he stated.

He said, currently the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Youth Authority headed by Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah and Mr Emmanuel Asigri respectively, have embarked on building ten multi-purpose youth centres across Ghana, which would be completed by the middle of 2019.
