A fundraising friendly match between Greengen Football Club and a select side of professional players ended 2-0 in favour of the professionals.
The game which was played at the Legon Ajax Park on Wednesday was targeted at raising funds for the club’s upcoming European tour and also enable the young players pick up few football lessons from their senior colleagues.
The game featured Former Black Stars and Enyimba SC goalie Fatau Dauda, ex-Kotoko defender Awal Mohammed and a host of other stars
Sharing his impressions after the game, Fatau Dauda commended Greengen FC for organizing the match and urged the young players to remain disciplined and focused.
“I have arrived from Nigeria few days ago decided to be part of the programme because I believed it’s something good. Whenever I’m in Ghana and there’s a programme like this, I take part because I feel its another way of giving back to the society. I played the first half and whiles on the bench I told my guys that these boys play good football. All they have to do is to be disciplined and not veer off the right path and I believe they will be stars soon”, he said.
Technical Director of Greengen FC, Nana Kwaku Agyemang maintained that the objective of the match which was to raise funds for their tour and also assess the performance of their amateur players against the more established players were achieved.
“I would say that our objectives were achieved. The fact that the kids have actually met stars and to be able to stand on the same field with them and have fun means that we have already achieved our targets. I was impressed with my players. These professionals are coming from different places in the world and play for different clubs, one thing you would not want to do is to play too hard to be able to hurt them. We told our boys to go out there, play them and have fun and I believe our boys did well”, he said.
The team is billed to leave Ghana on July 12 to embark on an European tour that will see them participate in three tournaments in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
In Sweden, the team will hope to defend the Gothia Cup they won last year while trying to make positive impressions in their debut appearance at the DANA Cup.
Having won it once, Greengen are bent on winning their second Oslo Cup trophy this year.
