Obuasi Presbyterian JHS SMC inaugurated

Obuasi, May 25, GNA - An 11-member School Management Committee for the Obuasi Presbyterian Junior High School has been inaugurated with an appeal to members to help improve the school's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. Mr Owusu Fordjour, assemblyman for Obuasi Estates electoral area, said BECE results of the school had not been encouraging over the years. "We have to work with devotion as members of the SMC to help improve the situation". He appealed to the committee members to motivate the teachers so that they would improve their performance to help enhance academic standards. Inaugurating the SMC Mr S.A.B. Awuah, the Assistant Director of Education, reminded the members that they were there to help the Headteacher in the effective management of the school. "You should guide against usurping the powers of the headteacher in the exercise of your functions", he said. Mr Awuah said the public were now interested in what went on in schools and so the SMC should live up to expectation. Mr P. Addo Fordwour, the Municipal Community Education Participation Co-ordinator, said it was a constitutional mandate for all schools to have SMCs to help empower and reactivate local communities in support of school development. Miss Comfort Kyerewaah Fordjour, the headteacher, said she was hopeful that the SMC would collaborate with the Parent/Teacher Association and other stakeholders to mobilize community efforts and resources to improve teaching and learning in the school.
