Samad Oppong catapults Faisal to victory

Kumasi, June 24, GNA - Abdul Samad Oppong on Wednesday hit a brace for Kumasi-based King Faisal to ensure the home team carried the maximum three points in their 25th Week Glo Premier League encounter against city-rivals Kessben FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Two goals from the striker in the 25th and 73rd minutes were all that Faisal needed to record a 2-0 win.

Relegation-threatened Kessben began the match on a vigorous note but were humbled by Faisal in the 25th minute with a beautiful goal by Oppong who latched onto an Ebo Andoh's pass in the opponent's goal area before delivering a thunderbolt of a shot that zoomed straight into the net.

The visitors were earlier on dealt a big blow when their dependable defender, Suraj Mohammed was red-carded in the 24th minute for handling a goal-bound shot from Oppong, however, the resultant penalty kick was wasted by Oppong.

On resumption of the second half, Faisal dictated the pace of the game and pinned Kessben to their own half as they mounted series of dangerous moves at goal but poor shooting upfront denied them of scoring any more goals.

Oppong however hit a brace for Faisal when he scored a beautiful goal in the 73rd minute, after he outpaced his marker and ballooned the ball into the right corner of the post to stun Kessben who were gradually coming into the game. Frustration set into the play of Kessben as they resorted to rough play and in the 81st minute Akwasi Adu was red-carded for a second bookable offence on Ebo Andoh but Faisal failed to take advantage to increase the tally to end the match.
