Relegation beckons Sporting Mirren

Accra, June 17, GNA - The survival of Sporting Mirren in the premiership was dealt a major blow after they lost 1-2 to visiting Kpando Heart of Lions in their Week 23 Glo Premier League clash on Wednesday at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. The loss, Mirren's 12th of the season which has seven games remaining keeps them firmly at the bottom of the 16-Club League standings.

With just 18 points from as many matches, only a "miraculous" comeback could see the Mamprobi-based side survive the elite division they joined this season.

Mirren who have occupied the bottom of the League since the beginning of the season put up yet another "ordinary" performance, which could not even earn them a vital home point. Contrastingly, they were the first to take the lead on four minutes through midfielder Larbi Coomson who headed home a Frank Boateng's cross from the right flank.

The lead however did not last long as Lions fetched the equalizer 12 minutes later courtesy Tanko Mohammed's header. Lions who appeared more composed and hungrier for success saw their efforts yield dividends eight minutes past the hour mark when substitute Godfred Asante tapped in Daniel Acquaye's cross after Mirren defender Prince Boateng was left sprawling in his bid to clear the ball out of danger.

Several raids by Mirren into the Lion's half for the equalizer produced no result till referee Ali Musa Plato brought proceedings to an end.
