Premier League: Liberty 0-0 Lions

Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals dropped the valuable points at home when they were held to a barren draw by Heart of Lions in their sixth week clash of the 2007/08 Onetouch Premier League match at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park on Sunday.

It was the first time Liberty had failed to grab the maximum points at home, with Lions giving them their toughest opposition yet this season.

The match was characterized by midfield action as both sides made little inroads into each other's half throughout the game. Liberty started the game on a high note, sending positive signals to their fans that the maximum points was up for grabs, but the attacking duo of Kofi Nti Boakye and Yaw Antwi found the defence of Lions a tall mountain to climb. The homesters had the brightest chance of the session in the 30 and 34th minute but the agility of Lions goalkeeper Adjetey Mozart robbed them of the opener.

Lions resumed the second half strongly with substitute Gordon Yeboah who replaced Solomon Okutu adding more bite to their compact midfield, which revolved around good old Edmund Owusu Ansah, Obed Ansah and George Yamoah.

Lions managed to marshal their way through the Liberty rear and in the 63rd minute, they nearly broke the deadlock, but Liberty's goalie Patrick Antwi parried away Yeboah's powerful volley from the edge of the penalty area.

Ten minutes later Liberty's striker Nti Boakye had his plea for a penalty called off by the centre referee after he was fouled in the penalty area by Godfred Rockson.

Lions had the better of the exchanges during the last quarter but still failed to score with striker Dominic Adiyiah blasting wide a fine opportunity on the stroke of full time.
