Liberty snatch vital point against Wassaman United

Liberty Professionals denied visiting Wassaman United their fifth win of the season by coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in the Week 20 Glo Premier League match on Wednesday at the Sly Tetteh Stadium, Dansoman.

A blunder by former national goalie Stephen Ahorlu gifted Liberty Professionals an image saving equalizer through substitute Christopher Nkansah four minutes from time after the visitors shot into a surprise lead through Evans Nyarko.

Wassaman, who are languishing amongst the bottom rungs of the league log displayed an output that contradicted their position matching their hosts squarely in every department of the game.

Referee Nuhu Yakubu Liman gave out a below par performance that left officials and fans of the host team stunned and visibly disappointment throughout the game.

Liberty had the first chance at goal on 20 minutes when Latif Salifu laid a perfect pass to Ibrahima Kamara, but the latter shot at the feet of onrushing goalie Ahorlu.

Few minutes later, Liberty’s goalie Daniel Agyei was to come to his side’s rescue by stretching to his elastic limit to parry wide Nyarko’s curling free-kick at the edge of their penalty area.

The game remained balanced but it was Liberty’s Salifu who fluffed the best chance of the opening by heading wide from close range from Richard Antwi’s cross.

The hosts had the upper hand in the second half but failed to break the deadlock with Kwame Boahene, Francis Morton and Salifu failing to score from close range.

On 72 minutes, Wassaman broke loose on a counter and Nyarko headed in from Abdul Bashiru’s cross. The players of Liberty protested that Nyarko was in an offside position but their pleas fell on deaf ears as referee Liman stood his grounds and awarded the goal for the visitors.

With victory staring at the Tarkwa-based team, it was Ahorlu’s feeble clearance from a back pass that fell to Nkansah, for the striker to lob the ball into the yawning net for the face saving equalizer for the Dansoman lads.**
