Liberty pip Olympics

Accra, July 20, GNA - A 75th-minutes strike by substitute George Yamoah gave Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals the three maximum points in the ninth-week tie against Accra Great Olympics played at the Nation's Wembley, Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. The game, which was largely dominated by Olympics, saw Yamoah tapping in a loose ball after the Liberty strikers had invaded the Dade boys defence in one of their few moves upfront. Olympics had earlier on, won all the 50-50 balls and had created countless chances but their attack, which revolved around Andy Pomeyie lacked the bite to put their side ahead.

After a less entertaining first half, the second half resumed on exciting note with Olympics dictating play in almost every department of the field. In the 50th minutes, Olympics clearest chance fell to Paa Joe Kumah who had come in for half-fit Joe Tegoa but Kumah fumbled, denying his side the opener. After Yamoahs' goal, the coach, Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie's lads launched countless assaults on their opponents but to no avail. Throughout their attack, it was goalkeeper Kotie Blanckson who stood between Oly and the equalizer.
