Kotoko beat Zaytuna 2-1

Kumasi, June 28, GNA- Kumasi Asante Kotoko showed their class when they defeated Zaytuna United 2-1 in their penultimate 2007/8 one touch premier league match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday. Kotoko scored their two goals through their prolific goal scorer Eric Bekoe in the 28th and two minutes into injury time.

Kotoko who are leading the league table was the first to go into action in the 6th minute but Kwabena Yaro's header from Eric Bekoe's cross was saved by Lugard Tetteh in goal for Zaytuna. Zaytuna gradually warmed them selves into the game and took over quickly and moved deep into the vital area of Kotoko and had a corner in the 8th minute which was wasted.

In the 10th minute, Kwabena Yaro who combined beautifully with Eric Bekoe lifted a nice pass but his close shot was intelligently saved by Tetteh.

Zaytuna who were really prepared to make a name met Kotoko boot for boot and nearly came to scoring in the 21st minute but a terrific shot from Frank Boateng was pushed to corner by goalkeeper Eric Nii Baah. Eric Bekoe in the 28th minute put Kotoko ahead with a powerful drive after David Sarkodies's shot had hit the foot of the metal work and returned into play in a goalmouth scramble. Bekoe, who was adjudged man of the match made it two for Kotoko two minutes into injury time after Kwabena Yaro had dribbled through forests of legs of defenders and handed over the ball to Bekoe. When goalkeeper Tetteh came out of the post, Bekoe curled the ball with a calculated shot which zoomed into the yawning net to end the half.

On resumption Zaytuna improved on their game and pulled a goal through Frank Boateng in the 49th minute after dispossessing Stephen Oduro of a ball in the Kotoko vital area. Boateng was red carded in the 58th minute for receiving two yellow cards for rough play. Playing with 10 men, Zaytuna who looked strong on attack made series of incursion for the equalizer but the defence of Kotoko would not bulge.
