Greater Accra Division Two League fixed for Jan. 17

Accra, Nov. 26, GNA - The 2010 Greater Accra Regional Division Two Football

League will kick-off in Accra on Saturday, January 17. 120 Clubs would take part in the competition which would be divided into 10 zones with

12 Clubs vying for honours in each of the Zones. Nii Komiete Doku, Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association

(GARFA) announced this at this year's Congress of the Association in Accra on Thursday. He said registration of players would remain open until Friday, January 16, 2010 to allow

for the payment of affiliation and player's registration cards. Nii Doku said the Association has been saddled with problems culminating from the

Ghana Football Association's (GFA) decision to increase the Division One league Clubs

from 48 to 56 but had reverted to the old system of 48, thereby demoting four of the Clubs

to play in the Region's football league. The Vice Chairman said the 2008/2009 League which started on April 18, 2008, ended

successfully on October 11, this year and praised Emirates F/C, Prestige F/C, Smart F/C.

Third World, Welfare Stars and Dream F/C for winning their respective zones. Nii Doku said 'Even as we congratulate these very esteemed gallant clubs, we must be

quick to notice a certain remarkable trend that is gradually establishing itself in our League,

adding that all the zonal champions were Clubs who played the League for the first time. He commended Smart F/C for qualifying from the Region to take part in the Division One

League. The Vice Chairman said the Association would continue to organize seminars for

members of the Clubs to update them with the rules and regulations governing the game. Nii Doku said plans were very far advanced to secure sponsorship which would enable

the Association play a major role in sports development in the Region. He announced that a District Football League would also commence on February 13,

2010. The Vice Chairman advised supporters of Clubs to desist from hooliganism since they

would not be spared when caught in engaged in any civil strife. 26 Nov. 09
