GPL Review: Ashgold regain top spot, WAFA wins to rise from drop zone

AshantiGold SC regained the top spot on the Premier League table after securing a 2-1 victory over Bechem United at the Len Clay on Wednesday. Bernard Morrison and Razak Mumuni combined to give the Obuasi based club the two goal cushion but Noah Martey got the consolation goal for Bechem United.

Hasaacas moved to the second spot while Aduana Stars slipped to the 3rd position after the Sekondi based club posted a 2-0 home win over Aduana Stars. Frederick Quayeson and Amos Korankye struck to ensure Hasaacas bagged maximum points.

Berekum Chelsea also rose to the 4th spot after Stephen Baffoe’s lone goal handed the Blues a 1-0 home win over Great Olympics at the Golden City Park.

Elsewhere at the Wa Park, Asante Kotoko slipped two places down to the 5th position after the Porcupine Warriors were held to a pulsating goalless draw.

Liberty Professionals dropped a place down to the 7th position despite holding city rivals Hearts of Oak to a 1-1 draw in a highly contested local derby at the Accra Stadium. Tamimu Muntari shot Liberty into the lead before Richard Yamoah restored parity for the Rainbow club in the second half. The stalemate leaves the Phobians one spot lower in the 13th position.

In the other results, West Africa Football Academy climbed up from the drop zone to the 11thposition following a Zakaria Mumuni match winner in a 1-0 home win over Medeama, which was Coach Tom Strand’s first defeat of the season.

BA United were held to a 1-1 draw by Heart of Lions at the Sunyani Coronation Park. Francis Kyeremeh scored for BA United while the Kpando based club got their goal through Tanko Mohammed.

A Sherrif Mohammed double ensured Inter Allies FC claimed their second win of the season and occupied the 9th spot following a 2-0 win over visiting Edubiase FC at the Tema Park.
