Berekum Chelsea clinch Premier League title

Accra, May 18, GNA - Berekum Chelsea wrapped up the 2010/2011 Glo Premier League title with three matches to spare. The Berekum lads beat Real Tamale United (RTU) by a lone goal courtesy Emmanuel Clottey's late strike from the spot in their Week 27 clash in Berekum to move 14 points at the top.

With nine points at stake in the last three matches, the outcome of those matches will have no impact at the summit of the standings. The result therefore means that Chelsea will be crowned champions at the end of the current soccer season. The feat serves the biggest achievement in the history of the club formed barely a decade ago and it comes as no surprise after having led the League for much of the season. With this achievement, Berekum Chelsea will represent Ghana in next year's Orange CAF Champions League.

This is the second successive time in as many years that the Ghana League crown has been won by a club other than Kumasi Asante Kotoko or Accra Hearts of Oak. Berekum Chelsea also becomes the second club from the Brong Ahafo Region to lift the Premier League title, after rivals Aduana Stars made history in the 2009/2010 season.
